january reads: cultivating creativity

January 31, 2013

I have reading lists stashed everywhere. In the memo app on my phone. On Goodreads. In the little notebook I keep in my purse. I’m sure I could find an old reading list tucked away in a book or stashed in a drawer. My reading list (eh..lists) grows much faster than I can keep up with. To start making a dent in these reading lists,  I set a goal for the year ahead to read two non-obligatory books a month (I end up reading several books through school, small groups, or other organized efforts, which I love – but it never hurts to read more, right?). Plus, it’s also one of the ways that I find inspiration to fuel creativity.

The two books I read this month, although completely different, both addressed creativity.  Grace Coddington’s memoir is a fascinating read about a beautiful, creative life surrounded by fashion. Blaine Hogan’s book has been challenging me to fine tune my creative process.

What have you read lately? I hear I have a couple of lists laying around just waiting for more ideas…

The beautiful photo of Grace’s memoir is from The Northern Light.
